The Himig Sanghaya Chorale Incorporated is a SEC
registered non-profit youth organization that aims to promote choral
music with its unique sound and musicality. Since it was founded in
1998 under the baton of Mrs. Cecile Gangan, Himig Sanghaya Chorale has
always lived up to its name, which means “Music at its Highest Honor”.
Armed with a unique tone production, unusual maturity of
interpretation, and high level of technical facility, Himig Sanghaya
Chorale has endeared itself to audiences far and wide with breathtaking
performances.
The choir had been once named as the Official Choir of Laguna by the
blessing of the former Laguna Governor Joey Lina. With this reputation,
the choir never failed to enthrall audiences from various places in
Laguna. The choir also has been performing in various public and
private cultural or non-cultural events from different parts of the
Philippines. It has also participated in several international affairs
namely the 2003 Philippine International Choral Festival and the Sri
Satya Sai Baba Annual Program that was held in the Asian Institute of
Management in Makati. Moreover, the choir has also received various
awards from different competitions such as NAMCYA Regionals (National
music Competition for Young Artists) which the choir won 2nd prize and
Vivere Suites Alabang Christmas Choral Competition in which the choir
won 1st prize for three consecutive years. Furthermore, the choir has
organized four self-produced concerts that have gathered favorable
feedbacks. One of these concerts is "Himig Kalikasan" an environmental
awareness concert-symposium that aims to promote the information
regarding the advantages of proper waste disposal.
Currently under the baton of Mary Katherine J. Trangco who is an alumna
of the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Music with a
degree of Bachelor of Music major in Composition, the choir
continuously challenges itself by singing various songs from different
musical era. With the vision of becoming involved in the International
choral scene, the choir is now aiming to travel and share the Filipino
culture and traditions simultaneous with learning different cultures
from around the world.
Mary Katherine Trangco
is
a graduate of the University of the Philippines College of Music with a
Bachelor's Degree in Composition. She won 1st Prize in the
Togakushi Oragamu Composition Festival in Nagano, Japan. She was
commissioned by the National Music Competition for Young Artists
(NAMCYA) to write the Official Contest Piece for the Rondalla Category
in 2000. The same piece was recorded and performed as part the
culminating concert of the 1st International Rondalla
Festival. She is now pursuing her Master's Degree in
composition while she teaches Music Theory in the same university she
graduated from.
